About Kosher Michigan
Kosher Michigan is the kosher supervision and certification initiative of Rabbi Jason Miller, a Conservative rabbi, based in Metropolitan Detroit. Rabbi Miller promotes kosher observance through the supervision and certification of select institutions, vendors, and products meeting several criteria. Through this website, Rabbi Miller also disseminates information and resources to educate the community about kosher observance and kosher products. Rabbi Miller feels strongly that kosher certification need not be monopolized by the Orthodox Jewish establishment. Kosher Michigan encourages the businesses they certify to be ethically responsible in all areas of their business.
Founder & Director - Rabbi Jason A. Miller
Rabbi Jason Miller founded Kosher Michigan in 2007. He serves as the year-round Rabbi and kosher supervisor of Tamarack Camps, a large Jewish camping agency, which includes a conference center, outpost camps, travel trips and a 1200-camper residential summer camp.
He founded Kosher Michigan in order to offer more kosher options in his hometown Jewish community of Metro Detroit. Rabbi Miller writes and speaks extensively about the kosher food industry and the need for ethics in kosher certification. A graduate of the Jewish Theological Seminary in New York City, he served as a mashgiach (kosher supervisor) in the Seminary's kitchens and has studied the laws of kosher supervision privately with kashrut expert Rabbi Joel Roth.
